DNS needed to register domain...

I have a problem, and I can't figure out how to resolve it on my own.
Hopefuly someone here can offer insite. I just registered a domain at
'dotster.com', and I wanted to use the DNS services on my own linux
machine to serve as the primary DNS server for the domian.
Unfortunately, dotster only lets you use 'registered' nameservers in
it's registration, and of course my box isn't registered yet. Someone
out there must use their machine as it's own nameserver -- how is it
done?
Thanks,
