8.1.2 -> 8.2.2P5

I have finally gotten the 'okay' to upgrade the nameservers under my control. I am pretty clear on everything except the $TTL. What I would like to do, in preparation for the upgrade, is go ahead and run a script on my db files to insert the $TTL statement, but I need to know if having this statement in my db files will break 8.1.2.
