Dynamic IP and Domain Names

This quesion has probably been asked a million times but I cant seem to
find a answer in any FAQ so here we go.



Let's say i set up a DNS at IP address x and regegister a domain name at
that same IP address x.  I set up a web page for IP address X.   A few
weeks my IP address changes to y.  If i change my DNS IP address to y. 
Will page still appear?  Do I have to re-register the domain name.  I
know there are compaines that will offer DNS services for dynamic IP
address but I really wanted to set up my own DNS.  Any help would be
appreciated.  Or maybe point me to a FAQ and try not to flame me too
bad.
