Name Server Registration ??

I'm a DNS newbie, i just have configured a dns and registrated it using the
HOST form at Network Solutions (Internic)...

1. How long is the "DNS" registration process ?
2. Here's the steps i have followed:
        a: registration of a domain name mydomain.com
            using my hosting company DNS's

        b: setting up on our server (Cobalt RAQ2)
                ns1.mydomain.com using ip XXX.XXX.XX.001
                ns2.mydomain.com using ip XXX.XXX.XX.002
                added the A record and secondary ns on our server...

        c: we want to register a new domain name using
                ns1 and ns2.mydomain.com as DNS server.

        d: registrated the two nsX.mydomain using the Host Form at Internic

Does i need to ask something (reverse lookup, ....) for mydomain.com ??
Did i forget something ??
How can i register the new domain using our dns as when we try to do so,
internic respond with "Domain name server unknown" ?
