forwarder

bind at col7.metta.lk bind at col7.metta.lk

Hi all,

I am behind a firewall and have no access to the Internet
I dial up my isp and get mail down by ppp login

My dns is working only because it is a requirement by qmail.

I saw a suggestion by Joseph S D Yao to use forwarders {}
to prevent bind from trying to use root.hints
which take a long time (about 40 sec.)

I have tried with an empty root.hints file
and it works much faster,
but I see from the many mails on this list
that it is not the correct way.

Could you kindly let me know if this is the correct syntax
as I do not quite understand the use of forwarders,

/etc/named.conf
---------------

options {
    directory "/var/named";
    interface-interval 5;
    forward only;
    forwarders {};
};

/var/log/messages
------------------

Sep 11 00:03:07 narada named[10110]: listening on [127.0.0.1].53 (lo)
Sep 11 00:03:07 narada named[10110]: Forwarding source address is
[0.0.0.0].1042Sep 11 00:03:07 narada named[10111]: Ready to answer
queries.
Sep 11 00:03:07 narada named[10111]: sysquery: sendto([0.0.0.0].0): Invalid argument

"Invalid argument" is what I get in messages.

Help is much appriciated
best regards
Jacob
