forwarding subzones?

Can I forward zone and subzone like this, and does the order matter?

zone "child.foo.com" IN {
	type forward;
	forwarders { 1.2.3.4; }; };

zone "foo.com" IN {
	type forward;
	forwarders { 5.6.7.8; }; };

This didn't work for me but perhaps someone else might have had success.
