How can a root server be lame?

The lameness is not in the root, but in the COM domain. Due to 
historical accident, the .COM domain is hosted on some of the
same machines that also host the root. As to the GTLD servers,
there is a -slow- migration of all TLD zones off the historical
roots onto seperate platforms.
I would guess that the lame message is due to the absence of
the dbsoftware.com entry in the .COM zone.
