high-port queries - what do they do?

i have been using the allow-query mechanism and when i upgraded to 8.2.1 i
now see a lot of unapproved queries for "." coming from the internet.  and
they usually come in batches of 15-20 at once from the same ip address.
i'm guessing it is a confused client, but it seems to be related to 8.2.1.
maybe i should allow queries to "." to make it shut up :-).

also, every once in a while i do see an unapproved query for a domain that
i do host and do allow all queries to.  queries of type any don't seem to
confuse it anymore, so i'm wondering if there is still a known problem
with allow-query?
