DNS wildcards: are they difficult to install?

Hello
Can anybody tell me if it is easy (and cheap) to install DNS wildcards
on a server?
I asked my provider to install them but it seems so difficult and
expensive.

Can you tell me also websites where to find this subject?
I don't mean websites of Providers offering DNS wildcard services.
I mean websites concerning the real software that my provider
should install on the server.
