Multiple Hyphens in Hostname

I've read RFC 1035 and RFC 1123, but they make no mention as to whether
or not multiple hyphens within hostnames are fine.  I've got a network
with several thousand PC's and printers setup with hostnames that have
two or more hyphens in them.  Am I going to have to reconfigure each
client's name on the entire network if I want to get DNS up and running?
