savehash: Not enough space

I got this message while trying to restart a DNS for someone yesterday, and I
fixed it by removing some of the unused reverse entries.  From the little bit I
looked at the code it looks like it's failing to allocate enough memory for all
their DNS entries...is this true and what can be done about this?

This is 8.1.2 btw, running on HP-UX 10.20...
