We understand that your may or may not be running ISC's DNS software in your network. Please let us know if you are using BIND or another DNS appliance, solution, or software.

Do you have system administrators dedicated to maintain your DNS infrastructure?

Do you have staff who add to and enhance your DNS software?

Authoritative Nameservers

Do you run your own Authoritative DNS Servers? For example, ISC runs the "authoritative" DNS servers for ISC.ORG. This is our domain (our zone). Do you run your own servers?

Recursive Nameservers

Do you run your own Resolver DNS Servers? These would be the server used to find DNS servers through out the world. Some organizations run their own servers. Other organization use public DNS resolvers.

Private DNS Nameservers

If your organization might be running a Private DNS system. Private DNS Systems are isolated and firewalled from the rest of the Internet to provide a unique name services. An example is the cell phone carrier's GPRS system that uses Private DNS for APN resolution (see ISC's KB Article for details)

Secondary DNS Nameservers

Secondary DNS Nameservers are critical to a domain's Resiliency, Security, and Availability. This section seeks to see if you have secondary DNS nameservers set up for your domain and if you are seeking better DNS resiliency, security, and domain availability.

Does your business depend on Internet access to succeed? If yes, then DNS resiliency, security, and availability are critical to your business.

If you do have secondary DNS configured for your domains, please let us know which technique. Some organizations would work with other networks to "barter" secondary configurations. These are "peering" relationships. Others would operate their own secondary services on their own network. The most resiliency and secure way today is to contract with a DNS Cloud, such as ISC's Secondary Name Services (SNS).
