Also, note that it's not *required* that the relay agent be in the 
router as shown here. The only requirement is that it has an 
interface on the client's network (broadcast domain) - it can be a 
standalone device with just the one interface if that suits your 
setup.

They tend to be in routers as that's a convenient place for a relay agent.
