switch layer 2/3 technology. Eg dhcp snooping coupled with other vendor tech will only allow systems that have got an address VIA DHCP to pass packets...your vendor may have this ability or it may not. Most people have kit that can do this but never turn the features on (others like ourselves have more effort to undertake as we also have static IP systems that have to be catered for)
