Most wireless devices default to AP or Bridge mode, so just turn off the 
dhcp server in the wireless unit, plug it in and see what happens. It 
should "just work" handing out IPs from the linux dhcp server.

Repeater mode is for where you want to extend an existing wireless 
network's range. It acts as a wireless client to the main wireless 
access point, then re-broadcasts the signals to other wireless clients.
