start disconnected with defaults, auto-reconfigure later?

Hi all!

This is an enquiry with intent to find out if it's possible to set up
dhclient in such a way that it can be started without network connection
or without DHCP server and have some pre-defined IP and route, but
reconfigure automatically as soon as DHCP server appears (or a probe for
it succeeds)?

(if no, I go back for dhcpcd...)
