DHCP Client ID related question

Hello,
In our company, we are trying to use the client identifier (as opposed to
MAC Addresses) to identify the DHCP clients on the network. My question is
in /etc/dhcpd.conf, where you define the hardware MAC Address and then the
option of dhcp-client-identifier. Are these two mutually exclusive? or can
we choose to have either or both (MAC and Client ID) in the config file?
