dig.exe SXS Problem

I just built a Windows 7 64-bit system and did the following
steps to make the `dig' program available for use:
* opened ftp://ftp.isc.org/isc/bind9/9.8.0-P2/BIND9.8.0-P2.zip
* copied dig.exe and the DLL files to a folder
* added the folder's path to the system's PATH environment variable
This has worked every time until now (including a Win7 64-bit laptop).
Now, dig.exe fails to load because its "side-by-side configuration is
incorrect". The Dependence Walker utility says that MSVCR80.DLL can
not be resolved and the sxstrace tool confirms this:
http://ftp.hpl.hp.com/outgoing/andris/dig-sxstrace.txt
Yet, the affected system has all kinds of instances of this DLL
in C:/Windows/winsxs with "x64" and "x86" in their pathnames.
It appears that any version of dig.exe will fail to run on
this particular system.
Does anyone what application I would have to install/reinstall
to fix this problem? Do I have to (re)register one of these
DLLs?
Thanks,
Andris
