installing 9.6 on freebsd7 configure problems

Hi,

Did you install FreeBSD with named ? probably it's the reason why you can't
start.
try do something like : find / -name 'named' -print
probably you'll see
/sbin/named         <- bind from FreeBSD
/usr/sbin/named         <- bind 9.6
