Server a bit slow to provide recurssion

On a windows xp client running nslookup, if I attempt to resolve a domain
it always takes two tries. I can see through watching the logs that its working
away, but it rarely returns the results fast enough for the windows nsclient?

I am only concerned about this as I have never seen this behaviour before and
wonder if there is something I can check or look at that might be causing this?
