It depends on how busy your DNS servers are. We did some experiments
with this earlier this year, and couldn't get any more than about
18,000 q/s out of it (as compared to 78,000 q/s on the bare metal).
Instead of just the physical NIC, host OS and BIND having to pass
packets between them, you wind up with the physical NIC, host OS,
vmware, virtual NIC, guest OS, and BIND passing packets... which
seriously slows things down.
