bind 9.2.4 won't query external domains

there is no firewall on the machine itself. iptables and ip6tables are
turned off just to make sure. again I can query any domain it has
authority to from any remote location. But I'm also using the same
server as a "caching server" too ... I want to resolve enternal doamins
too.

I must be missing something very simple in this Red Hat ES 3
implementation
