You might be able to keep things as they are, but stop the slaves
doing regular zone transfers, by specifying "notify no;" for the
zone on your master and setting a long refresh for the zone on
the slaves using eg "min-refresh-time 172800;".  Then have a
cron job on the slaves do a rndc reload for the zone when you
want during the day.
