Try watching your daemon.log file by typing (tail -f /var/log/daemon.log)
Then do an ndc restart or ndc start and watch for errors. Also type in (ps
ax|grep named) this should tell you whether or not your process is running.
You can also use the netstat command to see if your server is listening on
port 53.

Subject: "named"

Hi-
I'm running FreeBSD 4.3 with BIND 9.1.3 and I was wondering if when I type
'named' from /etc/namedb/, the named server is supposed to appear in the
processes list, cause it seems like it runs, but it never turns into a
service and it doesnt resolve names. (I guess then it doesnt really start,
heh) Am I not running the right file? Am I not reading the right
documentation? I got the BIND 9 administrators reference manual from the ISC
which seems ok, I also have DNS and BIND 3rd edition (O'Reilly, cricket).
Thanks for the help.
