Is There a Zone Management Tool Similar to Makezones?

--------
I have been using the makezones perl script for around 8
years at our site and it is been absolutely fabulous at helping
to keep us out of trouble. I made small modifications to it to
fix a little Y2K problem and to accept a default TTL for the
zone, but now we will soon be trying out SRV records which are
not supported. I can either dive in to the perl script and fix
it to properly except the new record type or I can write
something in C that hopefully will keep doing the making of the
reverse maps correctly and checking record syntax and updating
the serial number as well as handling new record types. The C
approach is attractive because any executable would run quite
fast. I also know C better than perl although perl certainly has
its place.
Before I do that, however, is there any open-source tool
which already does this, similar to makezones?
If not, I will do my best to create a new one and be glad
to share it when it works properly.
The last makezones script written by Philip Hazel appears
to be
$version_number = "0.22 [03-Mar-97]";
