It depends on the BIND version. Modern versions of BIND8 can cope with
up to 2**24 -1 zones: around 4 million. IIRC there is no limit in
BIND9 other than the ability of the underlying OS to address all of
the RAM/VM that would be needed to accommodate many millions of zones.
