Minimum Number of Characters in Host Name?

Is there a minimum number of characters that a host can be identified by?  I
vaguely remember that a domain name must be at least two characters long,
but I'm not sure if that's an RFC or if that applies also to hosts.

I'd like to name a host with only one character, example:

r.4at1.com
