The zone file for sandia.gov contains the CNAME limerock.mdl.sandia.gov
that shouldn't be there. Since the sandia.gov zone has a delegation
for mdl.sandia.gov, a name in that domain like limerock.mdl.sandia.gov
belongs in the mdl.sandia.gov zone, not the sandia.gov zone.
Well, glue records are an exception to this rule, but a CNAME cannot
be glue. Glue is when the parent zone has to contain an A record like
ns1.mdl.sandia.gov because the mdl.sandia.gov child zone is delegated
to ns1.mdl.sandia.gov. This solves the chicken-and-egg problem of
trying to find the address of ns1.mdl.sandia.gov so that a name server
for the mdl.sandia.gov zone can be looked up to find the address of
ns1.mdl.sandia.gov.
