a few problems with running rndc.

I've looked at the archives, and found two examples of the rndc conf file.
Two almost entirely different examples actually.
Anyway I still keep getting "connection refused" and I suspect it's because
I don't really understand the syntax of the rndc command itself?

Could someone give me an example of actually using the rndc command please?
Is the [-y key] the keyname used in the  conf file?

Also, the man page gives an example of a key generated with mmencode. Will
this key work in place of one generated the other way, with the same conf
syntax?
