You shouldn't have to set anything special up for a server to be able
to send mail appearing to originate from a particular domain, whether
domainb.com or otherwise.

For receiving:

domainb.com. IN MX 10 mail.domaina.com.

Yes, beyond the MX record it is strictly your MTA that is responsible;
whether it's sendmail, postfix, exim or something else doesn't really
matter. It most likely still has to be configured to accept the new
domain as local, and maybe have users and aliases set up as well.

Just don't forget "postmaster".
