Hello, listers

I wonder if someone will be able to help me with my DNS problem. I am
running BIND 8.2 on Linux RH6.0 machines. We just
migrated to two new domains (after a corporate merger), and I edited all the
occurrences of the domain name on our two RH6.0 DNS servers to reflect the
change. Our corporate services changed the delegation records, and most of
DNS services work as before the migration. The only glitch I found so far is
with CNAME records. Since we have two domains under our control, we use
CNAME records to point to A records in the other domain, so we can use only
host names, doesn't matter in which domain the host is located. Here is an
example:

in the zone file on the sms primary DNS (rhode.sms.domain_name.com):

   tomcat	IN	CNAME	tomcat.ndc.domain_name.com.

This set-up worked well until the migration. The CNAME records are still
there, now pointing to the new FQDNs, but when I use just a host name of a
machine located in the ndc domain on the primary DNS server in the other
domain (sms) - let's say 'ping tomcat', I get 'ping: unknown host tomcat'
error. If I add the sms domain name (the one which only has a CNAME record),
so I ping tomcat.sms.domain_name.com, the host name gets resolved correctly
(to the canonical name tomcat.ndc.domain_name.com and then to its IP
address). It is a small problem but since our new domain name is quite long,
it is a nuisance (you know - it used to work, now it does not). Would any of
you have a suggestion as to what may be wrong? TIA.

Regards

Marcin
