Incremental Zone transfers

I'm running BIND-8.2.2p5 on HP-UX 10.20 and tried to use incremental zone
transfers for my stealth slave zones dialups.mail-abuse.org and 
relays.mail-abuse.org. since these are huge.

The addition of maintain-ixfr-base yes; to options{}; alone(!) made my
server crash and dump core upon startup.

Is BIND-8.2.2p5 just flaky when it comes to IXFR or do I have to wait for
8.3.x?
