I quote from the Chambers English Dictionary - that's British English,
not American English:
grotty: (slang) adj. ugly, in bad condition, or useless [grotesque]
So I think that Grot is a good name for a directory where grotty
things get placed. In fact grot is sometimes used as a noun to refer
to something that's grotty.
Didn't this ever come up in Monty Python? :-)
