Microsoft Exchange/Outlook behind DNS

Hello,
We have been running Microsoft Exchange server and Outlook clients fine
for a bit now.
We recently setup an internet gateway on a Linux box, which also is
server as a DNS server.
Now that that is setup Outlook takes a very long time to resolve the
exchange server from
its name. Sometimes it doesn't resolve it at all.
Especially if the linux box goes down for any reason oru client machines
can't access our excahgne
server. There is no reason for this for they are all on the same
subnet.
Is there anyway to have a win95 client machine, when using outlook, to
ignore DNS?
Thanks.
