Hi, After 3 years of faithfule service out in.named has keeled over and
is refusing requests :
We are running BIND-4.9.3 on Solaris 2.5.1
Swap space ran out early this morning and after fixing that (even though
my /usr/sbin/in.named
/is/ running) I just get :
*** Can't find server name for address 140.204.220.35: Server failed
(when I try to run nslookup)
My named.run just spits out these messages when someone tries to perform
a lookup:
datagram from [140.204.95.133].1169, fd 7, len 46; now Fri Aug 13
09:38:22 1999
req: nlookup(this.hostname.chenged) id 26 type=1 class=1
req: missed 'this.hostname.changed' as '' (cname=0)
findns: No root nameservers for class IN?
ns_req: answer -> [140.204.95.133].1169 fd=7 id=26 size=46 Local
Note that I have changed some of the hostnames above.
Messages in my /var/adm/messages are like :
Aug 13 09:29:07 gip-eur2 named-xfer[201]: can't make tmpfile (sec_qip):
Bad file number
(When we ran out of space)
Aug 13 09:44:08 gip-eur2 named[99]: Lame server on
'249.67.152.IN-ADDR.ARPA139.8
7.48.242' (in ''?): [139.87.49.37].53
When I restart named I get :
Aug 13 09:24:57 gip-eur2 named[5949]: starting. named 4.9.3-REL Tue Dec

Aug 13 09:24:57 gip-eur2 named-xfer[5953]: can't make tmpfile
(139.87.49.37sec_q
ip): Bad file number
I then rebooted the machine, and now there are practically zero messages
being logged - the only one in
30 minutes is simply :
Aug 13 09:59:11 gip-eur2 named[99]: Lame server on
'249.67.152.IN-ADDR.ARPA139.8
7.48.242' (in ''?): [139.87.49.37].53
If you have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate any suggestions or
advice,
Very best, Tony
